Spiritual direction is a place for God-seekers …
those who desire more in a life with God.

This form of soul care offers someone trained in listening and discernment to journey with another in their spiritual life. It is a practice of hospitality and prayer, of coming alongside another to notice and draw nearer to God in all of life.

Personal Spiritual Direction

In spiritual direction two persons pledge to journey for a time to look together for God in one of their lives. In a confidential setting, through listening and reflecting, we meet in the presence of God who transforms, and we seek to discern God’s presence and leading.

Spiritual direction assumes God is at work in every area of our lives — our relationships, our work, rest, play, and quiet. God is present in our doubt, frustration, and pain, as well as in our certainty, our joy, and our healing. Sometimes it is difficult to discern the Spirit’s presence or movement, or to follow God’s call. God is the real Director of our lives, but a trained companion (spiritual director) can often help you hear, notice, and respond.

While this is a form of soul care, it differs from counseling or therapy. It is not the primary goal in spiritual direction to provide tools and resources to navigate challenges seasons, but to listen and help one connect with God amid any season, challenging or otherwise.  Spiritual direction sessions are often less frequent, meeting only once per month, allowing time for the focal relationship, you and God, to develop.  Spiritual direction also differs from life coaching. It does not offer advice, accountability, or problem-solve.  Instead, it looks more like listening, noticing, asking questions, sitting with you in silence as you listen to your life in search of God. In this way of “being with” change occurs, and movement happens, often slowly. Practically speaking, spiritual direction looks like meeting in-person or via zoom or phone call for a conversation, one hour, once a month.

“When you speak to me about your deepest questions, you do not want to be fixed or saved; you want to be seen and heard,
to have your truth acknowledged and honored.”  PARKER PALMER

Ignatian Spiritual Exercizes

Ignatian Spiritual Exercises

The Spiritual Exercises are comprised of scripture meditations, prayers, and contemplative practices developed by St. Ignatius of Loyola. Juli accompanies you through this nine to twelve month, one-on-one, intensive journey – largely centered around the life of Christ and the love of God. The Exercises incorporate many creative forms of prayer, often undertaken with the purpose of finding greater freedom, discovering personal vocation, making faithful decisions, and/or experiencing deep healing.

Guided Group Meditations

Guided Group Meditations

Scripture meditation that incorporates varied elements of silence, stillness, art, music, and poetry can help us engage God with our hearts, bodies, and world of relationships. Without setting aside our minds, we welcome the rest of ourselves into a space with God.

Juli enjoys visiting existing groups (such as Bible studies, community groups, prayer groups, discipleship groups, book clubs and other) to share guided spiritual practices. Occasionally new groups form, often through The Agape Center. If you desire to grow in community through contemplative practices, we’d love to hear from you.
